98% automation coverage of Qinghai's distribution network

After years of continuous development, the effective automation terminal coverage rate of Qinghai's distribution network has risen from 25% at the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period to 98% to date. The feeder automation success rate has increased from 13% to 95.4%, and the differential protection coverage rate of distribution lines has reached 100%. This marks a new level in the self-healing capability of Qinghai's distribution network and a notable improvement in customers’ power consumption experience.

As a critical public infrastructure, the distribution network plays a vital role in serving people's livelihoods and supporting economic and social development. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company has invested a total of 8.859 billion yuan in 1,700 distribution network projects, constructing and upgrading 20,000 kilometers of 10 kV and lower-voltage lines, adding and renovating 7,400 distribution transformers with a total capacity of 1.95 million kVA. This has fully resolved the low voltage issue for 320 administrative villages and 150,000 farming and pastoral households. By the end of 2025, the comprehensive power supply reliability rate of Qinghai Power Grid had reached 99.81% and the voltage qualification rate 99.89%, further enhancing people's sense of fulfillment and security in power consumption.
In the course of distribution network construction, with the goal of minimizing customers’ perception of power outages, State Grid Qinghai Electric Power has rolled out self-healing function development across the province's distribution lines and strived to build a regional all-business outage-free operation model. By the end of 2025, Qinghai had completed the construction of 1 provincial-level and 8 prefectural-level distribution automation master stations, with 2,080 lines achieving effective feeder automation coverage. The in-depth application of advanced technologies such as full self-healing FA, graded protection, and 5G/4G wireless remote control has further improved the accuracy of fault location and the efficiency of fault isolation, effectively narrowing the scope of fault impacts. Meanwhile, a full-process digital closed-loop management system has been established, covering the entire chain from automatic fault judgment and automatic work order generation to proactive resource allocation and automatic feedback on power restoration results, which has greatly boosted the operational efficiency of the distribution network.
Going forward, State Grid Qinghai Electric Power will focus on addressing the weak links in county-level power grids and accelerate the construction of distribution network infrastructure. Adhering to a targeted renovation strategy of one plan for each county, the company will carry out rural power grid consolidation and upgrading as well as comprehensive improvement of low-voltage lines in urban areas, fully optimize the structure of urban and rural power grid frameworks, and address the shortcomings of the distribution network. By raising the level of power supply services and the emergency support capacity of the power grid, the company will make greater contributions to meeting the people’s growing demand for electricity in pursuit of a better life and supporting the high-quality economic and social development of Qinghai.
