On January 28, the National Energy Administration of China released the national power statistics for 2025. By the end of 2025, the country's cumulative installed power generation capacity had reached 3.89 billion kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 16.1%. The cumulative grid-connected installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic (PV) power exceeded 1.8 billion kilowatts for the first time, hitting 1.84 billion kilowatts and accounting for 47.3% of the total installed capacity.

Among them, the installed capacity of solar power stood at 1.2 billion kilowatts, surging by 35.4% year-on-year and leading the growth; the installed capacity of wind power reached 640 million kilowatts, with a year-on-year increase of 22.9%, ranking second in growth rate. In 2025, the installed capacity of wind and PV power achieved a historic overtaking of thermal power, surpassing it by 30 million kilowatts by the end of December.
According to statistics from the National Energy Administration, the newly added installed capacity of wind and PV power has continuously broken the 100 million, 200 million, 300 million and 400 million kilowatt marks over the past four years. Specifically, the new capacity reached 120 million kilowatts in 2022, 290 million kilowatts in 2023, 360 million kilowatts in 2024 and 430 million kilowatts in 2025, showing a stepwise growth in incremental scale.
