The rescue channel in the core area of Jilong Port in Xizang has been opened with difficulty and power supply has been restored
2026-09-04
The Jilong port in Xizang has been severely hit by a cross-border mudslide. After the rescue passage was cleared, an in-depth search is being carried out.
The rescue passage was opened with difficulty
- Land route reopening: At 10 am on September 2, the land rescue route from Jilong Town to the port was basically reopened, and multiple large-scale machines entered the core area.
- Extreme operation: The debris flow deposits in the core area are 4 meters thick on average and up to 16 meters high. Firefighters crawl forward trapped in the mud, sleeping for a maximum of 3.5 to 4 hours a day.
- Professional search and rescue: 195 firefighters took turns conducting in-depth search and rescue operations, utilizing life detectors and search dogs in conjunction with manual methods such as "knocking, shouting, and listening" to conduct inch-by-inch inspections. Laser video AI monitors were employed for round-the-clock prevention of secondary disasters.
After the power workers worked day and night, the temporary power supply lines in the core area of Jilong Port in Xigaze, Tibet, were all restored and power supply was resumed at 20:00 on September 3, providing crucial power support for emergency rescue.
Power supply restoration in the core area
- Recovery time: At 20:00 on September 3, with the recovery of the water-damaged section of National Highway 216, State Grid Xizang Electric Power Company seized the construction window period and successfully restored temporary power supply to the core area of Jilong Port.
- Construction conditions: Emergency repair personnel overcame on-site operational risks such as frequent landslides and rockfalls, working tirelessly day and night. Support objectives: The temporary power supply lines primarily ensure the power needs for emergency rescue in core areas, including on-site search and rescue, communication equipment, and lighting.
Emergency repair progress
- Synchronization of roads and power: Power lines are being advanced simultaneously along the emergency access road section of National Highway 216, achieving the goal of "wherever the road is built, electricity will be available".
- Progress of pole erection and line stringing: A total of 50 utility poles were destroyed by floods on the National Highway 216. As of September 1st, 21 new poles have been erected, and the subsequent plan is to erect approximately 40 transmission poles and supporting facilities.
- Emergency power supply comes first: After the disaster, State Grid Xizang Electric Power immediately assembled 85 emergency repair personnel, 7 power generation vehicles, and 44 generators to provide mobile power supply matrix to ensure power supply for resettlement sites and command nodes.
Rescue and support system
- Personnel and equipment input: The State Grid has invested a total of 106 emergency support personnel and 236 sets of various power support equipment.
- Communication coordination and restoration: The core area has achieved full 5G signal coverage, with power and communication restoration progressing simultaneously, providing support for in-depth search and rescue operations.
- Lighting technology support: The lighting drone, powered continuously by a ground generator, provides illumination over a maximum area of 500 square meters, ensuring uninterrupted lighting throughout the night. This solution addresses the challenges of nighttime rescue operations in high altitude areas.
